Reading
Each child is given three new school reading books to take home each Monday. We would like the children to read each night, but our expectation is that children read at least three times per week. Rereading books leads to greater fluency, retrieval skills and reading for enjoyment. Please remember to date and sign their reading record each time they read. As the children become more able to blend, they will also be given a class author book, whereby when they have read the book, they will write short sentences and draw a picture to share with the class. Please ensure that your child’s book bag, reading book and reading record are sent to school every day.
After school clubs
Year 1 Multi-sports after school club is on a Monday. This club finishes promptly at 4:15pm. Lunch time PE club is on Tuesdays. Earrings must be removed for all PE activities.
P.E.
P.E. is on a Monday afternoon and the children will require appropriate footwear in their PE bag at all times. The school will provide a PE kit for your child. If your child has their ears pierced they will need to be removed by your child, as teachers cannot support your child with this. Can we ask for all uniform, including coats, shoes and outer clothing to be clearly named.
Homework
As well as reading at home each day, the Year 1 children are given homework and spellings every Thursday to be returned the following Thursday. If the task is a written activity, we ask the children to write in pencil. We take great pride in our work and the children love being rewarded for lovely presentation. Please always write in pencil. Spelling tests are on a Thursday. Children’s individual usernames and passwords can be found in the front of their homework books.
Please keep in touch…
We know that children learn everywhere, all of the time. We would love to hear about what the children have been learning at home. If your child has achieved something outside of school we would love to hear about your child’s achievement. Children are encouraged to bring in photographs, medals, or anything of interest so that they can tell their classmates all about it! You have all received an Evidence Me invite via email where we post photographs of your child to show what they have been learning in school that week and you are able to comment and upload photographs too.
