Welcome to Year One!

Miss Conroy, Miss Brown and Mrs Alexander are happy to welcome you to our Year 1 class.

Information for Year 1 Parents

Reading

Every child is given three school reading books to take home each week. We change books routinely on Monday. Each Wednesday we will send home a class author book and an exercise book for them to write a sentence or draw a picture. We ask that you read these books with your child at home to support their learning in school. Please remember to write and date their reading record book we would like the children to read at least three times per week. Please ensure that your child’s book bag, reading book and reading record are sent to school every day.

After School Clubs

Year 1 after school club is currently, Multi-sports club on Tuesday after school. This club finishes promptly at 4:15pm.

PE

P.E. is on a Monday afternoon and Gymnastics in the Autumn term on a Thursday afternoon. The children will require appropriate footwear in their PE bag at all times. The school will provide a PE kit for your child. If your child has their ears pierced they will need to be removed by your child, teachers cannot support your child with this. Can we ask for all uniform, including coats, shoes and outer clothing to be clearly named.  This not only helps the children with their independence, but it is their responsibility to look after their own possessions.

Homework

As well as reading at home each day, the Year 1 children are given homework and spellings every Friday to be returned on Thursday.  If the task is a written activity, we ask the children to write in pencil. We take great pride in our work and the children love being rewarded for lovely presentation. Please always write in pencil. We will include any QR password codes for spelling and maths apps we access within school to be practised at home.

Please keep in touch…

We know that children learn everywhere, all of the time. We would love to hear about what the children have been learning at home. If your child has achieved something outside of school we would love to hear about your child’s achievement.  Children are encouraged to bring in photographs, medals, or anything of interest so that they can tell their classmates all about it!
